Leedon Junction by Gordon HowarthLeedon Junction and Ryan's Cove is my fourth modern image layout, it is an extensive continuous model railway and is under modifications at the moment and is situated in my loft. The layout's dimensions are 15' x 10' x 15' x 10' x 2' wide. It raises upwards four levels from the main baseboard and down one level to a 15 road storage yard. The requirements for the layout were to have a seaside town station, passenger and freight trains, a large goods yard, a very large locomotive depot, a stabling point, and a branch line which goes to a hidden storage yard behind the scenery. Leedon Junction is set in a fictitious location somewhere in the heart of England, this enables me to run any trains from all the operating companies through the station and goods yards i.e. Virgin, Great Western, Scottish visitors, Eastern (GNER), Midland Mainline, EWS. and all freight operators, this gives me a tremendous amount of operating interest, from rail blue up to the latest liveries. Leedon Junction has five platforms and two through main lines. At the rear of platform 5 there is a goods avoiding line which doubles up to serve a stabling point at the north end of the station and an industrial/goods yard at the west end where you will find a small confectionery factory, a Royal Mail/parcels warehouse and a branch line which goes to a five road storage yard behind Ryan's Cove. Back to the north end a branch line curves round the stabling point into a tunnel which goes to a small town called Brookfield then onto Leedon Harbour which acts as the hidden 5 road storage yard again behind Ryan's Cove. Freight trains are frequent visitors up and down the branch, and the passenger services are handled by 158 sprinters, with a loco hauled boat train each day in both directions. Northbound trains can use platforms 2, 3 and 4 while westbound trains use 3, 4 and 5.Platform 1 is a bay platform for only trains heading North and back. The branch lines only uses platforms 4 and 5. All tracks through Leedon connect to the main through lines at each end of the station. In front of platform 1 there are two lines on the northern route which is used to enter Leedon MPD and goods yard which can be accessed from north to west traffic by crossing over to the northen line just outside Leedon North. There is loads of scenery to finish and detailing items which will take me a very very long time to complete.
