AGM photos online
A well organised and well attended AGM and exhibition was enjoyed by the large number of people who attended. It did credit to the NGS, the organisation of the Leicester Area Group, and lead organiser John Malpus in particular.
Twelve layouts, and six specialist traders (including both Bachmann and Dapol) gave us lots of inspiration and temptation.

Major long service awards
Two long-term stalwarts of the society had already announced that they were not standing for re-election this year, and a combined committee service of just under half a century could not go unmarked. Ray Hansen (30 years as GeneralSecretary) and David Wedgwood (15 years as Treasurer) were both given presentations to mark their exceptional contribution to the health and growth of the NGS.
As a Naval man, David received a specially customised Warship loco, while Ray received an initially confusing OO Blue Pullman. Happily, Ray at least got to handle the engineering sample of Bachmann's new N gauge version, if only for a few minutes! He will be receiving a fully decorated one as soon as the Farish N gauge version is launched, hopefully towards the end of this year.
As the Annual Model Making Competition results underline, we not only had a superb range of entries, but the inestimable Mr. Gareth Collier scooped a substantial haul of no less than eight trophies. We suspect he has a special shelf installed at home!
We are particularly grateful to Colin Allbright (Design Engineer, Bachmann) and Steve Flint (Editor, Railway Modeller), together with our own Noel Leaver, for undertaking the daunting task of judging all the entries.
Steven Bateman has uploaded the full results of the 2012 modelling competition, together with photographs of the winning entries. See the 2012 AMMC results here.
