NGS on tour

The NGS has an active program of exhibition attendance, enabling members and non-members to see the range of products and services that we offer. Of particular importance is the chance to see the ever-expanding range of kits and ready to run rolling stock that are not available through normal retail channels.
Members can also save postage costs by picking up journal or handbook binders, and there is usually a display case with a few example NGS wagons to tempt you!
When space permits, we also offer N gauge modelling demonstrations, and, of course, welcome renewals and queries from existing members. Make a point of dropping by the NGS stand when we attend your local railway exhibition.
45th Anniversary RoadShows
Our Anniversary celebrations this year will be different. With a commercial exhibition dedicated to N gauge modelling now an annual event, we have decided to reach out to a wider audience by taking a special RoadShow to large model railway exhibitions around the country.
The RoadShow will be alongside our usual Display Stand, and will offer the public (and NGS members!) the chance to learn how to build a wagon kit. There will also be a loco clinic and demonstrations of loco and rolling stock maintenance, together with advice on how to build an exhibition layout and get it booked for shows. The public can also try the "driver experience" of operating an N gauge layout.
We are grateful to the generosity of Parkside Dundas, Freestone and Peco, who are providing the kits, tools, glue and chassis for these RoadShows..
See the On Tour list below for planned RoadShow outings.
Meet the team and join up
David and Ann Baverstock would be delighted to meet N gauge modellers at the stand. Just come along and introduce yourself and have a chat. We sell the exclusive NGS kits and ready to run rolling stock, journal binders, handbook binders, and several other specialist NGS items.
We also enrol new members, renew current members, answer questions and queries. Why not join and order one or two wagons from our enormous range at the same time. It can be cheaper than buying our products from an auction site, and you'll get 600 full colour pages of N gauge modelling every year in our society Journal as well.
Even if you just want directions to a particular stand, come and talk to a friendly face. We'll try to help you out.
We would love to meet you, so do please come along to the stand, hopefully spend some money, but more importantly, introduce yourself. Without you, the member, the NGS would come to a grinding halt.
When space permits we have a demonstration table alongside the stand, and if you are interested in demonstrating with us, please contact David via the link below.
Mini Stands - North and South
For smaller shows, we have two Mini Stands which offer encouragement to N guage modellers and membership information, but do not have NGS kits for sale. Our northern mini stand features a new micro layout "Hartley", which is available to test member's new purchases, while the southern mini stand features a number of dioramas to show what can be achieved with N gauge.
Hartley (illustrated left) is a preserved railway on a total area of 3ft x 2ft 6in. The layout is highly detailed using code 80 track and proprietary scenic components so that the model will appeal to new modellers with restricted space.
The station and street lighting is scratch built using brass tube and 0.8mm surface mount LED’s. The buildings are Hornby Lyddle End, Ratio kits or Kestrel, all heavily weathered and painted by dry brushing techniques. The scenic areas are covered with ‘Woodland Scenics’ scatters and static grass applied with our home made electronic static grass applicator.
Shunting is performed in the station and goods shed / maintenance area, using electromagnets and a fleet of wagons fitted with MBD couplings. The majority of our locomotives are weathered by airbrush and have additional detail including dummy etched couplings, lamps and fire irons fitted. Road vehicles and figures are coated with matt varnish then weathered using Tamiya sets whilst the varnish is still tacky. Wagon loads are weathered using the Citadel range of washes.
Our southern team has a portable display with details of the ever-expanding exclusive range of NGS kits and ready to run models, combined with a number of dioramas with examples of assembled wagon kits, loco kits and more adventurous examples of "kit-bashing". (illustrated right). Our southern team are now actively looking for additional outings to raise the profile of N gauge and the NGS among smaller local shows, so if you know of an event that might be suitable, why not get in touch with our Display Stand Manager via the link below?

Where will we be?
This list will be updated over the year, but here is the current plan for our main display stand, and our two mini stands.
- Northern mini stand appearances are listed in blue and include the demonstration layout Hartley.
- Southern mini stand appearances are shown in green and display NGS rolling stock in dioramas.
- Only the main stand offers a selection of NGS kits and ready to run wagons (members only).
- Roadshow appearances are your chance to learn how to build a wagon kit or service locos
